REVIEW & PLAYLIST... KASSIAN: 8th Movement EP
Kassian are back on Heist with their ‘8th Movement’ EP. It's another fine showcase of their tight dance floor grooves and well-groomed electronic funk. The EP features 3 originals and a Leo Pol remix.
A1 Kassian – Apollo Feat. Laroye
Apollo is built around a bumpin’ disco bassline, hazy stabs, vocal chops and a deceptively simple but oh- so-catchy lead loop. It's everything you need for a solid party anthem.
A2 Kassian - 8th Movement
The title track takes a deeper turn, with rolling drums and their soon-to-be signature surprise move of a driving acid line. There's a definite heads down vibe of the track.
B1 Kassian - Apollo (Leo Pol Remix)
On the flip, Parisian producer Leo Pol has put together a lively and ecstatic take on the track. Where the original goes for a neatly organized groove, Leo’s version feels a bit like the anarchist little brother, definitely worth a full listen.
B2 Kassian - Brass Hammer
The EP closes off with Brass Hammer, another fine example of how you can work a tight groove with a simple bassline and percussion loop.
The guys haven't taken their foot off the pedal since we last spoke to them and they headlined our November party (remember when we used to all be able to be in a club together?!), charting releases on respected London record label and store Phonica White, esteemed Parisian label Groovence and started their own vinyl only edits series: Kassian Versions.
Recently, the guys have also contributed to compilations on Femme Culture in aid of the United Nations Women’s charity, China White in aid of Covid-19 support for the elderly, whilst still finding time to deliver a straight fire record for Heist.
Acuña Presents: Kassian @ Tola, Peckham (9th November 2020)
We asked the guys to curate a playlist of what's making them move currently, check out the playlist below or at our Spotify page. And be sure to grab a copy of the EP when it drops this Friday.
