5 Minutes With... JUS JAM

Broken District presents Jus Jam “90s Anxiety”, the first mini LP from the label co-founder, offering a deep dive into his hazy musical world inspired by the nineties aesthetic. A true journey, ranging from UK garage to dreamy hip-hop beats, early-electro sounds and new-jack swing. After signing a few tracks as part of the imprint’s VA series, it was only a matter of time for Jus Jam to release his first mini LP on Broken District!

Check out some of the music below and see what Jus Jam had to say when we caught up with him...

1. Give us the lowdown on this release...

I'm actually the co-founder of the Broken District label. So... this release is a project that we built together with my friends Matt and Antwan for the past months. I like to describe this mini LP, or maxi EP, whatever you want to call it, as a nostalgic and melancholic contemplation mixing all my influences, from rap music, to UK bass music, and breaks.

2. If you had to pick one, what would be your biggest career highlight to date?

I don't really remember all my gigs, for some reasons... but what I can tell you is that I was really proud to share the stage with Kyle Hall in my hometown, at the Iboat club in Bordeaux.

3. If we were allowed to be out partying, what current records would you be playing out at every set?

4. What's coming up next for you?

I am currently working on a new release. I don't know yet if it will be a mini LP like this one or an album. I am also preparing a vapor trap mixtape format, with original productions.

5. If you could spend 5 minutes with anyone, who would it be and why?

It's hard to decide. I don't think it would be a musician. Maybe a climber, such as Axel Honnold for example, someone who does free solo climbing. I would love to understand what pushes them, and how they think.
