5 Minutes With... HATT.D

HATT.D has spent the past few months quietly crafting a stunning 10 track album, 'Welcome to Paradise'. Dedicating 10hrs a day to the cause, the project showcases a collection of deep and diverse tracks, from easy-listening Sunday trip-hop to pulsating, piano laced groovers.

The album, released on GLBDOM also features remixes from heavy hitters Paul Rudder, Hurlee, Jeff The Fool, Dub Striker, Yann Polewka and Marc Brauner.

We caught up with HATT.D ahead of the release next month to get the low-down on the album and to hear whats next for the Dutch producer.

1. Give us a lowdown on this release.

All the tracks are written last year during the lockdown. I had so much time to make music as almost everything was closed and visiting people wasn’t really allowed so I made a negative situation into a positive situation. I made music 5 days a week 9 to 10 hours a day just like a fulltime job as my real job was closed too.

The tracks on the album were inspired by many things but the fact that I had the freedom and all the time of the world to work on music this much was very inspiring on itself. I spend a lot of time in nature too just like many other people did during the lockdown, that’s definitely a factor that I took inspiration from together with the music I’m listening too every day when I wake up or when I’m on the road like: ambient, jazz(funk), soul, hiphop, house and breakbeats.

You’ll find the nature elements in combination with the genres back on the album.

2. If you had to pick one, what would be your biggest career highlight to date?

Well, that’s a tough one because I think as a producer my career has just started last year by releasing various ep’s and tracks on VA compilations on various labels.

But... As a deejay, for 10 or 11 years now, I had the chance to do an opening set in 2019 together with a good friend before BICEP for 1500 to 1700 party people so that is definitely a highlight in my career.

3. When we’re out partying in the not so far future, what records are you itching to play out?

That’s a tough one too haha, there are so many good releases lately and so many good classic tracks around!

But If I have to choose 3 records I would go for:

4. What’s in store for you next?

A lot of nice thing are coming up:

  • Of course my album ‘’Welcome To Paradise’’ including all those dope remixes

  • 2 vinyl releases are about to drop this year, 1 remix from me and 1 original track on a VA release.

  • A few digital VA releases.

  • A free download ep.

  • I’m going to release a hiphop/boombap beattape on my Bandcamp this year.

  • And there’s 1 big gig coming up which was supposed to happen last year but is rescheduled to this year September: Opening the club before Hunee.

5. If you could spend 5 minutes with anyone, who would it be and why?

That’s a difficult question, 5 minutes is so short.

Emotional wise it would be my son, because I love the little guy.

Music wise I think it would be (Dj) Central because I’m really curious to his workflow and the gear he uses.
