5 Minutes With... Featherstone
Featherstone is a solo project from Australian based artist, Ben Featherstone. Over the years he’s produced under the moniker of Junglemire and remains active as half of live techno outfit One & One and experimental duo Pallasites. After many years of weaving intricate sounds in the studio to create dynamically rich, bass driven electronic music, he began performing live and started laying the groundwork for what was to come.
Featherstone is the result of this and sees a shift towards a more stripped back, simplified and confident sound. His music is made for the dancefloor whilst retaining an emotive and at times surreal quality that also provides a meaningful listening experience. Drawing on a wide range of musical influences and taking a more intuitive approach to sound design and production, his sound is diverse, evocative and always evolving.
Check out what he had to say when we caught up with him...
1. Give us the lowdown on this release...
I’m really excited to be part of this release! It features a bunch of great artists who are creating a lot of really interesting music. The best bit about being on a V/A is the opportunity to connect with other artists from different parts of the globe.
2. If you had to pick one, what would be your biggest career highlight to date?
Starting my own label, Ernest’s Way, had been on the cards for many years so it was really great to finally get that off the ground last year.
3. If we were allowed to be out partying, what current records would you be playing out at every set?
4. What's coming up next for you?
I’ve just finished up a round of live performances so now it’s time to get back into the studio to complete two upcoming releases. Hopefully they won’t be too far off!
5. If you could spend 5 minutes with anyone, who would it be and why?
David Attenborough because I’d just love to talk to him about narwhals, sloths and nature.
