5 Minutes With... Christophe Salin

Christophe Salin and his wife have been running Salin Records since 2018 and today they releases his 'It’s Probably Me EP'. Christophe is a brilliantly detailed guy, evident with his meticulous approach to the EP production, the answers to our interview questions and in the pitch-perfect, hour long mix he has done for our Mix Series today. This EP definitely marks a shift in sound and style for Christophe, but retains enough of his sonic signature to know exactly who's behind the work.

Check out some of the tracks below, alongside his Mix - and see what he had to say when we caught up with him...

1. Give us the lowdown on this release...

After the release of “You Took My Love EP” in 2019 I re-build my whole studio and started working on a new workflow to create sounds. The first outputs were my remixes for Tour-Maubourg and Sable Blanc. My latest “It’s Probably Me EP” marks a shift in sound while I still keep my signature. I feel like I’m still in a process of finding my sound but probably this process will never end as the studio will never be finished ;-)

2. If you had to pick one, what would be your biggest career highlight to date?

We did a release party with Michael Diamond for Salin008 in Oxford last year. I played back-to-back with Michael and the incredible talented Alex Wilson played sax live on top of some beats we dropped. The place was fully packed, and the vibe was amazing. At the peak of the night, I played “Stevie Wonder – Another Star” and everybody in the room went crazy. There were people from all ages (20 – 60 yo) and they all danced together and forgot about everything else – That’s’ house music and that’s why I love it so much.

3. If we were allowed to be out partying, what current records would you be playing out at every set?

Karizma – The Power

I love this track so much. It’s one of the reasons why I fell in love with house music back in the early 2000’s and it still spreads so much positive energy.

LoSoul – Movespeak

Incredible production. So much power. Masterpiece!

Keri Chandler – Bar A Thym

Playing live is completely different to creating a podcast/guest-mix. It’s less about teaching people about house music and def. more about having a good time. A well-known classic and an untouchable master piece that will always sound fresh...

4. What's coming up next for you?

My next release is a collaboration with my dear friend Tour-Maubourg. It will be the first release on a new sublabel called Salin Deep. We finished the tracks to 80 % yet and I’m very proud of what we got so far. Salin Deep will focus on the rawer and more dub-influenced side of house music and TM and I enjoy this playground a lot. Next on the label will be Eddi Shkiper who is an incredible producer form Siberia. I’m very excited about these new projects.

Salin012 will be out in late Spring / early Summer. It’s a new release from Michael Diamond. He teamed up with Alex Wilson again who played Sax on two tracks of the ep. The EP is very powerful and marks the next level for Michael.

5. If you could spend 5 minutes with anyone, who would it be and why?

I thought very long about this question. I could mention some people that I would love to invite for dinner, having a few glasses of wine together and talk all night long: Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Larry Levan, DJ Grégory…and I would also invite my dear friends Tour-Maubourg, Flabaire, Sable Blanc, Michael Diamond and of course Daria. But if you add the pressure of only having 5 minutes with someone…who could tell you something in 5 minutes that is lifechanging and answers questions of Life…You might laugh about me but I would say: Jesus Christ.
